In the middle of Puerto Vallarta’s vibrant downtown, tucked between the Malecón and the zona romantica, lies a place locals and visitors equally adore: La Isla del Río Cuale
What began in 1926 as a sandbank formed by the river’s split is now a leafy oasis full of life, culture, and history. A stroll here feels like a breath of fresh air, here you’ll find everything from local handicrafts to open cultural spaces.
The island is also home to the Municipal Institute of Culture where workshops and art exhibits showcase the city’s creative talent.
One of Isla Cuale’s greatest charms is its feline residents.
Dozens of cats that have been rescued, sterilized, and cared for by local associations (foreigners and locals both take care of them), these hairy little guys have found a safe home here.
It’s an experience that delights both kids and grown-ups
Getting here couldn’t be easier.
You can enter directly from the Malecón by descending the stairway that connects to the island.
Just ask a local, hey its part of the experience, trust me. Also ask them about the hanging bridges, its a playful adventure for children and the young at heart.
